Haruki Murakami's A Wild Sheep Chase and Japanese horror
Honor
doesn't necessarily mean a happy acceptance. it's just the
acceptance just like with the unnatural in the Japanese horror.
Question
is not good or evil that is the two faces of the same coin. The question is
about balance, you want harmony and when it isn’t you find a way to fix
it.
Wild
Sheep Chase is really unsettling, no real good or evil character in the story.
Gave no reason that he was evil or bad, he was just an unsettling character.
Very dream like a surreal atmosphere.
Brings
you to a different perception of the world in ways that you can’t do in the
film.
Interesting
how none of the characters have names, easier to portray on a
character? The narrator didn’t have any connection to anyone,
disconnected can’t remember anyone’s name?
I like the
way, the ghost is portrayed in the story. Being aware of the supernatural doesn't come so naturally to us, this awareness is difficult since we are always so caught up in our own state of mind. It's hard to
notice the things that seem so obvious. We complicate it by being submerged in
our own thoughts.
A clear
divide in the work: a lot of it is very normal then the other work
is unsettling with horrific unsettling images. Different than a travelers
story. The difference between media choice and difference in states of horror varies because of the acceptance of the unnatural.
It's not too much of a surprise though since J horror seems to accept most of the unnatural.
This
acceptance is what has made J horror, in my opinion, more terrifying because of it
is no longer a question if something is real but it is the truth then it is all
real to the people that are there and that makes it more
terrifying. It has more of an impact when the characters and people
do believe something as normal. Without speculation, you can create more of an impact on the reader. The way
we see the ghost or nonhuman is differently viewed then how we view them Why is it taboo to deal with a ghost here and more culturally acceptable in
other countries. Its a very interesting aspect and I think its what really brings the story together.
